Experiences and activities
Bengtskär
Finland's southernmost inhabited island, Bengtskär, is located in the outer archipelago of Hiittinen. On its rugged cliff rises the tallest lighthouse in the Nordic countries. The lighthouse is a full 52 meters high. A spiral staircase with 252 steps and two ladders lead to the lighthouse's lamp room, from which a breathtaking view of the Archipelago Sea opens up. One can try to describe the atmosphere of the lighthouse island, but Bengtskär must still be experienced firsthand!
Sandö
This magnificent, unique sandbank northwest of Högsora runs low above and below the sea surface for a long distance. The island is wild and has no services. The destination is suitable for a swimming trip or a nature walk. Sandö is truly a place worth seeing! The destination is located by boat on the way to Parainen/Turku.
Örön Fortress Island
Örö is the jewel of the Archipelago Sea National Park. The island's open fields and coastal meadows are home to several rare plant and butterfly species not found anywhere else in Finland. Among the historically most valuable sites on Örö are the island's barracks areas and the fortifications on the northern tip.
Bunkers and trenches add a sense of adventure to hiking, especially with children. Örö has six kilometers of old cobbled roads, which make it easy to move from place to place across the island from one end to the other, even by bicycle. Örö is suitable as a day trip destination, but if you want to explore the entire island at your leisure, it is worth staying overnight.
Hogsara
Högsåra on Kemiön The neighboring island, which captivates with its imperial history. Russian Emperor Alexander III was particularly fond of Högsåra and the bay in the northern part of the island, where he anchored his pleasure yacht for several summers in the late 1800s.
Högsår has some year-round settlement, two guest harbors, and a rather renowned Grandma's Cafe. The café's strawberry cake was praised in Helsingin Sanomat as even the best in the world!
